I am a collector – wood, metal, stone and glass. Intrigued initially by each object because of its shape, I find their physical traits to be connected to those of humans. The choice of materials is also significant, not in conveying a historical time line, but rather in their abilities to hold texture, creates interior space, present visual weight and show a natural coloration that works with the overall combination of mixed media.
I live with these objects, each possessing a unique history prior to my collecting them. Eventually, a visual dialogue begins to form between various elements. I see a new story emerging from a collective past. Repetitive shapes and images create a familiarity amongst the individual works. In putting various elements together and sometimes incorporating newly made ones, the process of letting go of a part of its past is necessary in order to become something new.
